- Eat right and exercise
Eating a healthy diet of plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as omega-3 fatty acids from seafood is the number 1 way to care for your eyesight. Drinking green tea contains antioxidants to protect against ADM and cataracts.
- Wear sunglasses
Ultraviolet radiation can deteriorate vision over time leading to cataracts and age-related MD. Also, the skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the body and is susceptible to wrinkles and skin cancers.
- Have a yearly examination
Start with a baseline examination to detect future changes in your eyesight.
- Take a break from your computer
If you are using a computer all day – follow the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes look away at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
- Contact Lens Care
Follow the proper care for contact lens.
- Wear eye protection
Use protective eyewear at work and at home to prevent eye injuries. When Skiing and Snowboarding use tinted goggles to protect your eyes from the sun on the snow and wind.
- Don’t smoke
Tobacco smoking is linked to AMD and increases the risk for developing cataracts.
