My Aged Care

What is My Aged Care

My Aged Care offers choices and control for
Australians with a disability for support and services they wish to receive to maximise their independence. The scheme is designed to help those with a
disability identify the support they need and give
them the power to choose where and how they
receive it.

Who is Eligible?

Over 65 ( or 50 years and older for people of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) that Live in
Australia and have Australian residency or hold a
permanent Visa or Protected Special Category Visa. Eligibility is based on factors like your health, how
you’re managing at home, and any support you
currently receive.
Someone who requires some support or care for
safety and independence. A person with blindness or low vision qualifies for support.

The Queensland Blind Association and your My Aged Care

Our aim is to assist blind Australians in accessing the support they need to live happy and independent lives and we hope to continue this by assisting you with your My Aged Care. We are able to assist you with your My Aged Care plan by providing you with the appropriate equipment to do so our wide range of products are available to purchase online, over the phone or in store. We are always researching new products and the latest advancements in low vision and talking equipment so
that we can offer you the highest quality equipment and support. Our products are designed to assist with daily tasks and increase independence for those who are vision impaired or blind.

Low Vision and Blindness on My Aged Care

The My Aged Care can offer a wide range of assistance to those who have a vision impairment and are eligible to receive support. This assistance is designed to help those with low vision and blindness navigate their
everyday lives and develop independence alongside their skills for daily living. The structure of the My Aged
Care allows each client to take control of their funding and access the services that they need to reach their
goals. The Queensland Blind Association Inc. can help you or your clients reach these My Aged Care goals
through the supply of adaptive equipment. Support available through the My Aged Care extends beyond low vision and talking equipment. It can assist with training and therapy, household tasks, home modifications and more. Vision Assistance

We sell a wide range of products that have been specifically designed to assist with low vision and blindness. These products include:

  • handheld, standing, LED and pocket magnifiers,
  • fit-over sunglasses,
  • large print books and telephones,
  • braille and talking products,
  • labelling devices, and
  • VIP “Vision Impaired Person” and “I am Blind” badges.

Mobility

We have a selection of White Canes available to those who are a member of Queensland Blind Association Inc and have received the appropriate White Cane Training and wish to purchase through their NDIS plans.

We sell Long Cane, Identification Canes, Support Canes and Cane Accessories. Please contact our office on (07) 3848 8888 for more information if you wish to purchase a White Cane.

Daily Living

All of our products have been selected as they can assist with daily living tasks and help a blind or vision impaired person with the equipment they need to participate in their communities. These products include:

  • low vision and talking kitchen items that can assist in measuring, cutting, storage and temperature monitoring,
  • identification and labelling equipment,
  • large print, braille and talking clocks and timers, and
  • handheld, standing, LED and pocket magnifiers.

Personal Care and Safety

Products that we have available that assist personal care and safety include:

  • talking keychains, clocks and watches,
  • liquid level sensors, specialised oven mitts, boil-over protectors and other kitchen items designed to make cooking safer,
  • eye drop guides, and
  • magnifying Medi-Grips.

 

Communication

Accessible communication equipment is vital in assisting blind and vision impaired people with leading independent lives and staying connected to their communities. We sell a range of:

  • large button, easy-to-use telephones,
  • specialised writing equipment such as large note pads, envelope and writing guides, and
  • braille products.

Education

Products that can be used for education and entertainment:

  • computer and tablet accessories,
  • Braille writing frames and learning devices,
  • writing equipment, and
  • magnification items that have been specifically design for fine print reading.

We also carry a range of fun large print puzzle books, braille, tactile and large print games.
